In 2008, MSIA members implemented a customized early return-to-work program for workers injured on-the-job called the OUR System®. The Optimum Utilization of Resources (OUR) System® is a proactive transitional work program developed by Norman Peterson & Associates (NPA), Inc.

The benefits of the OUR System® are:

1. Injured workers are back to work quickly, if possible within one day
2. MSIA member districts receive productive, valuable work for their money
3. Medical and indemnity costs are significantly reduced. Typically by 20%.
4. The recovery period for the injured worker is reduced and the risk of re-injury is minimized
5. Physicians receive clear documentation about the physical requirements of temporary transitional work (Bridge Assignments)
